Thoughts with the At least 40 Indian workers trapped in tunnel collapse.

Thank you for your humanity. If no one else, I will remember it. The disaster happened in an area that is approximately about my native place so it’s personal.

Army officers to take charge of Pims, Polyclinic hospitals in Islamabad

If the Pakistan Army feels it can do everything - from farming to manufacturing to running the government - why don’t they save us Indians the bother and play both the roles national defenders and national enemies by themselves? Oh wait…..

😂 laowhy86: China Just Built 1 Billion Empty Houses for Nobody - This is Insanely Bad [I was repeatedly called a liar when I reported it 6yrs ago]

We will come to know soon enough - assuming that the debt financing played a role in for companies and individual buyers in the building and purchase of these homes, that level debt floating around isn’t sustainable. Unless government bails out in a massive way. But it’s not exactly clear...

Saudi crown prince: Israel and Saudi Arabia moving closer to normalization ‘every day’

There’s a ways to go before normalisation. IMO the Saudis are throwing up trial balloons at this stage to gauge reactions - within and without. The last guy who tried to do this with Israel, didn’t end up so well for him. Look up Anwar Sadat, I’m sure Salman has. So it’s going to be slow and...

A new plan is shaping up. Nawaz sharif is coming with 2/3 majority

I don’t see a situation in which PA will allow a two thirds majority to any politician including Sharif. Why would PA want a strong political ‘master’? Tomorrow if Sharif gets two thirds, that day itself he will start to move against the army. This is simply the logic of political power.

    Pakistan still ahead of India

Some of you folk should understand that household debt is a positive indicator of free market institutions providing goods and services to a population actively participating in a private sector economy, and not necessarily the negative you think it is. Within reason of course. 2.77...

Slums hidden as India puts on its best face for G20

It is true. There have been efforts to cover up slums in Delhi. I have seen it myself. It’s laughable. But I find it funny that a poster who names themselves Hanwarrior (he/ she is presumably Chinese) is talking about it. Because China did the same thing during its Olympic Games a while...

India to Forge Military Ties With Taiwan? Beijing Fumes After Former Service Chiefs Visit Taipei

If we had huts, we would not have sent the retired chief to Taiwan to buy a few, like you said, huts. Unfortunately we India are a poor nation without huts. We also, like you said, don’t have guts. So here is a poem for you. We have no huts We have no guts Our officers are sent To buy or...

    Asim munier murda bad: skardu

Yeah I’ve seen your posts for a while. You do add a lot of knowledge and perspective to this discussion. I try to mostly stay away from Pakistani internal affairs as they’re none of my damn business, mostly. However, this subject and discussion- the military’s evolving role in Pakistani...

Dear Pakistan, I still love you to the moon and back

And now I’ve heard it all. Eyeless in Gaza is a novel written by a favourite author of mine - Aldous Huxley. It was written in 1936. You’re obviously not a reader.

    Asim munier murda bad: skardu

I’m a cynic, believing as I do that institutions almost never self harm - that is, systems themselves (indepndent of individuals) tend to to protect their power or influence. In other words PA will never willingly reduce its power base, even if there comes a COAS who so desires. And in this...

Dear Pakistan, I still love you to the moon and back

Accomplishment is accomplishment and should be recognised as such. India’s space program is a superb accomplishment. And should be supported and invested in by all domestic governments. It is an old and also specious argument that a nation that is “too poor” should focus only poverty...

France not to allow women to wear abayas in schools: Minister

One, it does not intrude upon me at all. I find it perfectly acceptable in the context of Indian society. Two, I’m not talking of the hijab, but the culture and worldviews that seem to clash. Three, I was talking of the opinion that anything goes in a democratic system. In other words...

France not to allow women to wear abayas in schools: Minister

Your freedom to wave your arms stops when your waving arm intrudes into my personal space. The freedom to express your opinions and way of life stops when it intrudes into mine. This holds true for right wingers, left winger and religious fundamentalists. No democracy is absolute in that...

Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem make it to Javelin final

This is how media baits people: https://reddit.com/r/unitedstatesofindia/s/1wA0zYNUws A reporter asks Chopra’s mother her views on her beating a Pakistani athlete for the gold medal. His mother replies that the origin of a player doesn’t matter, she is very happy (“badi khushi ki baat...

After Saudi Arabia, Now Argentina is planning to not join BRICS

Some of the arguments in this and a few other threads remind me of the quote often attributed (apparently wrongly, but very relevant nonetheless) to Mark Twain: “Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.” This has helped me stay away from...

    Chandrayaan-3 Mission Successfully Landed!!!

Thank you to my Pakistani friends. This should make us Indians more humble. If only we could all work together for humanity instead of being bogged down by hate and mistrust.

    Ukraine counter offensive have failed

Now that this has become a long drawn war of attrition, I fail to see how Russia can benefit. The drain on their economy must be immense. And any victory will probably be pyrrhic. It's more likely to be Afghanistan redux. The Afghanistan war was a significant contributor to ending USSR...

Two Christians accused of blasphemy arrested in Pakistan after mob burnt churches

No offence to my Pakistani friends, but this reads like something out of really dark satire. Imagine the possible headline: Muslim Mob burns Churches, 2 Christians Arrested
