This has all the appearance of an engineer trying to stop a runaway train: https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2023/11/02/blinken-heads-back-to-war-torn-israel-offer-support/7051698899288/

Just refreshed my memory of this history. Others my find this useful too in understanding why Egypt and Jordan may like to sit this war out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_September

Egypt and Jordan made it their war before; they don't want to repeat it. Yes, I did read the report. I am familiar with the issues. Sadly, we had horrible things like that happen in our country's history too.

Israel rejecting ceasefire 'deal' from Hamas is less worrisome than they may be not agreeing to a request for pause from U.S. (and others) to see if something besides open ended warfare has a chance.

I never said they are 'random'. I was trying to explain why Arab states are not joining the war. For them, Palestinians are 'others', in the sense that, they don't want to risk their countries interest. Support, help, sympathy - Yes; risking their own life and survival - No. That was the...

    Gaza-Israel Conflict | October 2023

The UN problem was supposedly because of the remark "Hamas attack didn’t happen ‘in a vacuum’". That comment sounds to Israelis like he justified the attacks. Try to imagine, after 9/11, a U.N. official saying "9/11 didn't happen in a vacuum <insert a list of sins U.S. has committed>". How well...

He said some politically unwise things (for Israelis). But if a relatively 'neutral' like from UAE or Saudi Arabia want to talk, would they be rebuffed too?

If some Head of State wants to visit for diplomacy, I don't think Israel will object. But I don't know. Has it ever happened?

    Gaza-Israel Conflict | October 2023

That would be politically untenable. It would feed the 'terrorism wins' meme. But if his call gets ignored, it means, Israel is on autopilot and there is no control. My gut feeling is he tried telling this some time back in private and it didn't have any effect and he is trying it publicly now...

'How come Arab leaders are not visiting Gaza?' Even if they want, it would be pretty dangerous thing to do now. But they can visit West Bank (or even Israel, if Israel agrees) if they want to practice some active diplomacy. But, as usual, they all want somebody else to do all the heavy lifting.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/biden-calls-pause-israel-hamas-war-rcna123274 Now, it will be interesting to see if his call gets any response or gets ignored. If it gets ignored, we are in for some terrible times.

Many people here seem not ready to accept that logic. That may be why the nicer countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain etc., are looking away after issuing proforma regret for the suffering of the affected people.

I have the money; I want to build one. Also, maybe, "if you build it, they may come" (somebody's quote)

Doesn't make sense. 1,500 terrorists needed to kidnap 20-30 people? Doesn't pass laugh test. Looks like buyer's remorse.

    Gaza-Israel Conflict | October 2023

Jews are 73.5% of Israel. Arabs are 21%. I do know they are not represented proportionally in all positions of authority. One has to consider that, since the birth of Israel as a 'Homeland for Jews', one constant refrain of Arabs surrounding Israel has been complete destruction of Israel, with...

    Gaza-Israel Conflict | October 2023

There are sizeable number of Palestinians in Israel today and they seem to have a normal life not very different from Israelis. Hence your hypothesis remains difficult to prove. However, in every Arab and almost all Muslim majority nations, throughout history and still today, non-Muslims have...

Red and Green are colors of Christmas, and they seem to be having some weird humor around that, environmental? Like don't waste paper by making hats or wrapping paper may be? (I don't understand). You are going to see lot of red and green for the next two months, and that is not political.

Pakistani and Malaysian economies compared, Why is Malaysia doing better, lol?

There seems to be an asymmetry on either side of India. On the west you have the trio of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran. On the East there are Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia. All are Muslim majority countries. The countries on the west, being closer to the Middle East focus more on religion...
