I think the end result is somehow taking out the tunnel system and preventing reoccurrence of same. That would require intense observation with sensors and drones and preventing structures that may obscure observation by air. If they do a good job, they may get a couple of decades of 'peace'...
How will you target Hamas hiding in a labyrinth of tunnels 200 feet underground? Sending Israeli troops underground for tunnel warfare is sending them to grave. Israel is trying to use BLUs to expose tunnels. Unfortunately, that will also take out buildings above causing loss of life.
While it is obvious that Israel should be concerned about getting 200 hostages back, I think they are placing higher priority on how not to get 1,400 people murdered again. In that calculus, they may be making a Sophie's Choice type of decision that they may have to sacrifice the hostages to...
It is not my feeling; I am trying to answer what, how and why others may be behaving as they are. Obviously, this is all a conjecture as I don't hold any position in any government. I am as puzzled as anyone else why no one is lifting a finger to help Gaza. In the absence of firm evidence, best...
Outside of commentariat like this board, no one of any authority is using the word 'genocide' yet. I don't know exactly when that word is triggered. This list says Rohingya genocide in Myanmar is the latest/continuing genocide: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_genocides
1. Capability
2. Willingness. A lot of people here think it is axiomatic that other countries should jump in to help Gaza. But it should be questioned. Why would they like to do it? Do they really want to show Hamas and its friends that this is how you get power and use it and enhance it...
For neutral observers they are not comparable. But for the Israeli commander on ground, he has to decide how many troops he is willing to sacrifice if he enters ground war prematurely. Yes, Gaza is tiny, but Israel doesn't have the troop strength allies had during WW2. May be 1000 times smaller...
In WW2, Dresden and Tokyo were firebombed. Japan was atomic bombed. Can we go back and second guess those commander's decisions? Would it have been better not to engage in those tactics and let Hitler and Hirohito win WW2? Or win with a few million more allied troop casualties? Armchair analysis...
All else being equal, Israel would like to win (or achieve their objective) with least amount of losses to their side. It is terrible that that may involve huge numbers of collateral damage on the other side, which is what Israel's tactics seem to be showing.
His chances would have gone from low to lower. He has more than multiple times the smarts needed to put his finger in the air and see which way the wind is blowing.
Name of the game is to win with least casualties and losses on your side. Everything else is BS. Modern war is not a Gladiator sport.'Cowardly' and 'Bravery' are medieval concepts suited to King Arthur's battles.
My impression of Egypt's problems are from this:

By any measure, Lebanon is beyond broken. They don't even have a functioning electric grid and water supply.
I am not a Jew; I am not infatuated with 'Zion agenda'. I think Israel has done many wrong things. What I want to understand is Hamas's plan to achieve their goal. Since they took big risks on October 7, they must have been hoping for big rewards. I just want to know what are the rewards they...
Let's go with your thesis. How did Hamas want to accomplish this by starting a war with Israel? What is their strategy to destroy Israel and exile/murder all Jews?
Alright, you get into the shoes of Hamas and make the case for their 'Strategy'.
Step 1: Kill 1,400 Israelis (I will not quibble about civilian vs. military)
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Success
Please give the best you can for Step 2.
I am not sure if you are saying Libya and Sudan are not failed states. If so, we just have a difference of opinion. No big deal as there is no universal definition of what constitutes a failed state. My argument was that, with two failed states on two borders and peace treaty with Israel, Egypt...
