They really aren't. That's the easy superficial answer. The real answer is - very little of the muslim world is led by genuine leaders. The people are oppressed by dictators, 'kings' and despots. People who are constantly working to keep their grip on large populations - the west of course...

This is where you're going wrong. Stop trying to look for logic in an act that is without logic. To do so...justifies the killing of innocent civilians elsewhere. Did 9/11 victims logically 'deserve it' because of US foreign policy? That's a slippery slope none of us should go down.
