#backoffindia in Nepal trending in twitterosphere, but why?

Aah now it's clear. Thanks. I am still not sure about the population. I though Madesh (the region) had 58% of Nepal's population on the other hand 40% of Nepal's population are Madeshis and other Indian origin groups. In any case I hope this settles down and Nepal can hold its first full...

#backoffindia in Nepal trending in twitterosphere, but why?

I am not sure I understand correctly. Madhes occupies 17% of what? Area? What has area got to do with seat distribution? "Madhesi want CA representation by demographics not by geography." - Um yes. That why there is a 'demo' in democracy. Otherwise we would have had a 'geocracy'. "What we...

#backoffindia in Nepal trending in twitterosphere, but why?

I heard that the main reason behind the protests in Nepal is that Madeshis and Tahrus who make up about 40% of the country's population are given only about 30% of the seats. Is this true? Apparently India is worried that this will spill over into India like what happened to the Tamils in Srilanka.

Don't bring the Saudi imperialist war to my home

For a long time Pakistan has allowed its soldiers to go to the gulf state as mercenaries. I think some of them were employed in 2011 in Bahrain to crush the uprising there. Bahrain has a Sunni monarch but a majority Shia population. I won't be surprised if similar things happen now. The...

Superstitious Indians Hold Anushka Responsible for Indian Defeat against Australia

From disco maulvi to liberal fascist

Zarvan is right. Secularism IS anti-religious. Think about it. The key of secularism is - "Separation of church (mosque, temple) and state (power). Why is that? Why would you want to keep religion out of power unless you feel there is something wrong with religion? We allow natural sciences to...

Religious Census 2011 sucks: Hindu population may even now be overstated

Is the official state wise religious demographic data released yet? I don't see any link anywhere in the blogpost nor in the Indian Express page which it quotes? Is there any actual official data or is this just another bull. Some enterprising soul has updated Wikipedia with this latest 'data'...

Is India "Financing Problems in Pakistan"?

I don't think India is funding TTP and not because I believe the Indian government response on this. It's because I haven't yet seen any strong allegation from the ISI (or have I missed it? Was there any?). If India was indeed supplying the TTP, ISI would know. India probably helps BLA or at...

Taliban threaten to kill politicians’ and army generals’ kids next

Can we please give it a rest about what Islam permits or not? Religion had nothing to do with this incident. This is what the TTP said - "We killed your children because you keep on killing ours."

Zindagi, Pakistan shows a hit in India

Interesting. I always felt that Pakistani TV serials may do good business in India. India's young educated middle class, particularly men, are currently in a bad shape TV wise. There is absolutely NOTHING to watch. Most of them these days rely on Pirate Bay rather than tune in to any of the...

    Is Pakistan a Warrior State?

Since 9/11 a mini industry has developed in western media. Pick a country the west is currently engaged with in some bad way and write a crappy book highlighting all the negative sides of that country/its government. I mean this industry always existed; just that the focus is now more intense on...

What was the most important Empire in India's history?

I wonder why Romani/Gypsies get such a bad rep of being a bunch of thieves. That award should go to the Brits.

Rupee took ‘less beating’ than regional currencies

The absolute value of a currency's exchange rate doesn't indicate anything about the country's prosperity, regardless whether it's fixed or floating (Japanese Yen has an exchange rate of 100 to the dollar). It hardly costs anything to print paper money, the only 'problem' with a high exchange...

Pakistan’s High Illiteracy Rate Threatens Its Fragile Democracy

Proper education is a must for prosperity, yes, but I think this post makes a huge mistake by equating illiteracy with unwiseness. In any country ordinary people, in general, may be poor, illiterate and downtrodden. But they are never 'uneducated' or unwise. It's simply not true that they don't...

Election in Pakistan - Hopes and fears - An Indian perspective

Pakistan has eventually made it. For the first time since 47, the country is going to an election after a civilian government completed its term. If the current despots are voted out of power, and a new and better (even if marginally) party emerges victorious, the effect on the population will...

Is a strong dictatorship better than a weak democracy?

Yes. Now all you have to do is find such guardian angels who will lead your country to prosperity. As for Pak army, here is a hint. In last four years the number of innocent deaths from drone strikes has crossed several thousands (leave alone the causalities due to counterattack by...
