    Shouldn't there be other priorities?

    Afghanistan: our modern opium war

These farmers need an alternative to opium, something just as lucrative.

400 women held in Afghanistan for 'moral crimes' such as fleeing domestic

Women in Afghanistan have a long way to go but I'm afraid it will be awhile before they make any progress.

US military night raids into homes of Afghans

I don't care how many "HVTs" these night raids produce, more come back in their place. It's a failed policy in all but a few cases. Check out "Free Range International" for some clarity on these.

Afghan woman MP sets sights on presidency

Isn't Afghanistan going to have to rely on foreign aid at least for a few years?

    'Huge Afghanistan attack foiled'

With everything going on we hear a lot of hope from the Afghans. Good stuff and hopefully they make their own way when NATO leaves.

Photos emerge of US soldiers posing with maimed bodies of dead Afghan insur

Sorry it's off topic but I can't seem to start a new thread in the U.S. defence folder. I'm a U.S. Marine vet from Afghanistan and I have a thread I want to start that is related to the U.S. servicemember's view of the Afghans. When I try it says I don't have the permission. Thanks

Will ‘guardian angels’ save Americans from Afghans they’ve angered?

"Guardian Angels" is a standard term to describe overwatch. It's always been used and is even used in the US on military bases.

    Operation Cobra's Anger

I know this is an old thread but I feel ok replying because it's a sticky. I was involved in operation khanjar in 2009 and left right before operation cobra's anger. Now Zad was one of the most violent places at that time and the city was nearly deserted. It was a fight every time we went up...

US airdrops supplies in east Afghanistan

Taking revenge is different from killing someone who is hell bent on killing Americans. If we didn't get him he would of kept at it, he has a history of it. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but we should of either gone in there, killed bin laden and warned the taliban not to let these problems spill...

US airdrops supplies in east Afghanistan

I just did. We blew it in Afghanistan. I'm hoping they can avoid a full blown civil war after we leave. As for Iraq, what do you predict will happen there? ---------- Post added at 08:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 PM ---------- I wish that was the case but didn't Japan...

US airdrops supplies in east Afghanistan

That's exactly what I'm talking about. It should've started right after the initial combat was over and been a comprehensive plan to show the Afghans we're serious about helping. It would've saved a lot of lives and I'm betting money too.

US airdrops supplies in east Afghanistan

The US has been beating the snot out of the Taliban on the battlefield for the last ten years but we missed our opportunity to capitalize on early gains. We have squandered any chance of political gains. During the lull in fighting in '03-'04 timeframe we could have implemented some real change...

Thats why America and NATO is winning in Afghanistan !!!!

This doesn't disprove what I said, sick individuals in the extreme minority. And it was also a soldier, not a Marine. I know it doesn't make a difference but it's important to me to differentiate. I was confused by the use of terms.

Militants grab U.S. military Humvees in ambush - CNN This was a few years ago and after this hopefully procedures have changed. Oops sorry, double post. What about Manas air base?

US airdrops supplies in east Afghanistan

There is also a huge amount of waste over there: steak and lobster and even ice being flown in, hiring and flying in third country nationals to do work that should be contracted to Afghans. If we engaged in more commerce with Afghans that would also help solidify relations. These huge mega bases...

US airdrops supplies in east Afghanistan

Very well supplied over there, not enough to last to 2014 when hopefully the troops leave but enough to last by supplementing by air and the overland route through the north. Do you guys think the US will crash and burn without the supply routes through Pakistan?

Thats why America and NATO is winning in Afghanistan !!!!

Please post a link to the "Marine sport killing". I'm not trying to insinuate that these things do not happen, war is people at their worst and these things happen. Americans don't condone it and this is certainly not the atmosphere projected by the US military. Sgt. Gibbs was convicted and...
