Deployment of THAAD: News & Discussions

The launchers are not what China is concerned about, it's the radars. As I explained a few posts up, China's minimal deterrence posture relies on the threat of being able to attack a few enemy cities instead of overwhelming numbers like the Russians and the Americans. Early warning is crucial...

Deployment of THAAD: News & Discussions

Please tell me, how can THAAD, even on paper, intercept those incoming threats? How can a missile with a MAXIMUM range (useful range is almost always significantly less than the max) of ~200km be able to protect Seoul, which is more than 200km away the Seongju Country Club? How can a missile...

Deployment of THAAD: News & Discussions

THAAD by itself does not protect SK. It's a weapon designed against medium and longer range ballistic missiles, which NK will not use against SK since it's too close. THAAD I believe will also be deployed out of range of Seoul. However, it WILL threaten China, because China's nuclear posture...

3,300 Chinese cruise passengers stage Boycott at South Korean resort amid missile shield row

People need to see below the surface to understand the dynamics underlying the current events. South Korea is not a sovereign Korean nation, it's an American state that happens to be occupied mostly by Koreans. Why? Because the mark of sovereignty is the control of military forces, and the SK...

China Exports of HSR, Trains, Metro, Tram, Rolling Stocks, etc: News

You guys realize that this is $900m for 13kms, or about $70m per km, right? It is indeed quite cheap (or affordable, whatever you wanna call it) compared to those done in Western countries, particularly a very expensive city like NYC.

Chinese medicine expert says 'anti-smog' teas ineffective

Rome wasn't built in a day, and pollution isn't gonna be cleaned up in a day either. China in 2016 was cleaner than China in 2015, what kind of progress is India making?

Chengdu J-20 5th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

There are two possible locations, and you can see both of them on the 2nd J-20 pic. One is at the same location as the F-22, you can see a panel of different color there. Another is right in front of the root of the left wing, you can also see a different set of panels there.

    FC-31 v2.0 First flight 2016.12.23

TFX is a pipe dream, not even the European countries themselves can build a 5th gen fighter, but Turkey will with European tech? Also, there is absolutely, positively, no friggin way that any sensitive technology like engine or radar tech will be shared with Turkey. They'll have access to...

Chengdu J-20 5th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

Who he is is rather important here, as he's a liberal arts major with zero experience in either military or engineering. His observation of "enormous airframe and small wings" and "huge weapons bay" are incorrect, and any analyses drawn upon shaky foundations is of course pure crap, like all...

They're from the FC-31 booth at Zhuhai, so it's pretty confirmed.

Exciting news! I used to be a student at Miami, and I've assisted in surgeries right in Sylvester, so it's especially exciting for me :yahoo:

Deployment of THAAD: News & Discussions

It's an intermediate range missile defense...against intermediate and long range missiles, which North Korea will not use against South Korea as it's only a stone's throw away. It in itself is useless for defending SK, but it's clear that SK believes that it can be helpful in defending SK by...

China’s Submarine Fleet, Evolution & news

It says that a certain production line has been idle for 3 years now after producing the last batch of 039Bs, but recently there's news that a certain new type of conventional sub is beginning construction, indicating that this production line is being restarted. I think it's hinting that the...

Chengdu J-10 Multirole Fighter Air Craft News & Discussions

All sorts of planes climb vertically, many do not have very high thrust to weight ratio, it's just a matter of control surfaces converting kinetic energy into potential energy. Unless you have a T/W ratio > 1 though you'll slow down throughout the climb and eventually fall.

    Z-10 & Z-19 Combat Helicopter News & Discussion

No it doesn't. It just says "复杂程度远超武直-10的直升机", which means a new helicopter that's much more complex than the Z-10. It says nothing about whether it'll be an attack helicopter. Incidentally, that's exactly how cirr translated it as well.

Chengdu J-20 5th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

It's simple physics. The engine, like the diaphragm of a speaker, vibrates, which rhythmically push on air molecules thereby generating sound. Those air molecules' movements get altered by the structures it must pass through to reach your ears, thus altering the sound you hear in pitch, tone...

Chengdu J-20 5th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

You can't compare the two's sound, they're very different airframes, and the airframe can change the sound of an engine quite a bit. It's like speakers, if you put the same 8-inch woofer in different enclosures, they can sound very different.
