Not really - this happens to any country which buys military supplies form the US. At least all they can do right now is inspect, imagine what they would be doing to our warships if we had signed all the pacts they wanted us to(like CISMOA)
Does anyone know if the Indian navy has plans for a cruiser type vessel - 25000 tonnes or so of pure firepower. We could buy a kirov class battlecruiser from Russia ( which is in reserve,Russia has 3 of these beasts in reserve) and modernize it to amazing specs.
They carry the S-300 on them as...
We have already bought fighters for the IAC 1 and Gorshkov. The IAC 2 will come in 2022 or beyond(most probably 2025). There is a good chance the naval version of Pak-Fa will become ready by then, if it is then the Rafale has no chance of making it into the indian navy.
Why would you want to station a SSBN at a naval base - they are supposed to on long range patrols continuously and their location is supposed to be hidden. Plus a SSBN is useless in protecting sea lanes - they are just portable nuclear missile carriers - a better option might be Kilos or Scorpenes
Its a Naval Air base - so mig 29k is more likely than super 30 - which is sad as the Mig 29k's only anti ship missile is the Kh 31A with a range of 50km , if we can add the Kh 59 or exocet on it then it will be far more deadly and useful in such a role.
That's assuming that the LCA MK2 comes on time - I think its a matter of one more delay(very likely because its HAL we're dealing with here) and the Gripen NG might be ordered - we wont even have to conduct trials before buying as trials are already over.
Which is precisely what i just said - if we cant afford the phalcons - concentrate on ( in other words - give higher priority/ orders to ) the drdo awacs system. And no matter what the reason for cost escalation by the israelis - they will lower the price once they realize that indians have a...
Well according to the data given out by the DRDO - thats not true. The DRDO awacs is to have 250km range while the Saab 2000 erieye has a range of 350km

Well due to current economic conditions we cannot afford to be extremely lavish in our purchases so if the Israelis and Russians are asking for a lot of money then we should concentrate on an indigenous AWACS(especially since we have made a lot of progress in this field recently) - even though...
You're probably right - India might not have a choice in the matter as well. We need a small, yet potent fighter which we hope to get in the Tejas MK2, but going by recent news that even the MK1 is only going to be ready by 2015 - I have lost a lot of faith in the program - When will MK2 first...
It will be handed over to the Indian navy on dec 4th 2012. And it will take some time in sailing that ship all the way from Russia to India. So first quarter of 2013 is what I'm thinking.
IAF only changed requirements when they no longer make do with limited requirements. The LCA was initially supposed to enter IAF service in late 90s(that was the promise made by DRDO in the begining - i.e. the mid 80s) and the IAF gave requirements accordingly, however then the LCA got delayed...
Yes its Sengupta, but instead of the name we should be concentrating on his claims - has the missile defense never been tested against an agni missile?? If so then how can we be sure in its capabilities?? to be completely secure we should be testing it against the best ballistic missiles we have...
