Mayawati wants UP divided into four new states

Absolutely. I believe Vidharbha has been crying out for statehood for a long time. Inspite of being rich in resources, it languishes in development metrics and is plagued by farmer suicides.

    Tell that to the EU!

Mayawati wants UP divided into four new states

As I said, there are a lot of things that matter apart from the party in power. What about the global economy? A strong global demand will fuel internal economy. I dont think NDA saw a recession.

Mayawati wants UP divided into four new states

You are talking as if BJP has a magic wand of development! There are a lot of other things that matter apart from the party in power.

Mayawati wants UP divided into four new states

A much needed move. UP's problems are compounded due to its size. The best governed and the most developed states in India are inadvertently the smaller ones. However this division might create two extremes - Harit Pradesh with its rich agricultural output and industry near Delhi will be...

Army counters Omar on scrapping AFSPA

Honestly, and I think most of my countrymen will agree with this, the AFSPA is based on the logic that the Security forces have to sometimes override the usual laws and acts and act as an extra-judiciary power. Besides, the AFSPA also avoids any unecesary civilian interference into military...

Army counters Omar on scrapping AFSPA

The Army's concerns are valid, but at the same time this issue should be looked as a political and not just a security problem. A political solution necessitates that the temporary withdrawal of AFSPA should be given consideration, at least from relatively peaceful areas.

    That's absolutely fair.

The curious case of Indian Punjabis

The argument of "why the partition riots then?" can be used for communities in India too. We have seen so many riots in India between different communities, havent we? Yet we are still living together. The atmosphere of 1947 was dissimilar to anything the country or the world had seen. Very...

The curious case of Indian Punjabis

I know. I listen to regional news channels and cringe at the use of Sanskritized words like "Varshik" for Annual instead of Salana which is more common in Punjabi. Another example is the word "Hisab" for Maths. Nowadays, its Hindi version Ganit is used more often. Btw, I dont know if many of us...

The curious case of Indian Punjabis

I too have experienced similar emotions on meeting someone from the other Punjab. They look like us, talk like us, eat the same food, same customs, same dress but the border divides us and this is how it stands. It was just plain politics that divided us. Although I too I have often wondered how...

The curious case of Indian Punjabis

I can say the same about your Punjabi. Its mixed too much with Urdu. And this isn't unexpected, the official language inadvertently loans some words into the local language. Urdu in your case, Hindi/Sanskrit in ours.

    The Last Sikh Warrior

To be fair, I do not know if these skills are really useful in actual modern combat. They could help in nurturing your body and spirit and keeping it ready for any eventuality but unless it comes to hand-to-hand combat they wont be used.

    The Last Sikh Warrior

Nice piece. I hope he gets to transfer his knowledge and keep this dying art alive. The Akalis (not to be confused with current Punjab based political party) and their current version - the Nihangs were literally the special forces of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's army. These brave hearts would be...

    Incredible Indian betrayal

Extreme naivety on display. First you give your contact info to someone you just met over an internet forum and when it turns out to be a bad experience, you generalize and open a thread specifically pointing out the nationality of that person.

    Fight during Pak-India hockey match

Well, unfortunate, but nothing new. Tempers rise in tense situations in hockey, especially when its India vs. Pakistan.

Superstition Keeps India's Richest Man Out of Billion-Dollar House

Cant comment on the architecture but yeah it does stand out, probably too much. But I do find it a bit odd that he had to spend this huge an amount to build an abode. I guess even Ratan Tata did not have nice things to say about it.

    Babas of Indian Army

Secular doesnt mean no religion, it means all religions are equal. Almost every IA cantt will have temples an shrines of all faiths. And soldiers are humans like me and you. Away from home, guarding the borders or fighting wars they will believe something if it gives them strength.
