US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

I agree with you Helia. As I have pointed out there have been numerous reports on the lack of computer security at Creech Air Force base in Nevada, where these drones are flown from. These reports are two months old, and for an interested party this is ample time to put together some kind of...

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

Obviously you still don't get it. I was suggesting that a two events took place. Both the events are plausible and supported by facts that you have supplied: 1. The command center controlling the drones was infected with custom made malware that targeted the systems responsible for uploading...

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

Actually I do have some engineering background, but unfortunatly I do lack your arrogance. Failing to implement proper security in systems is human caused failure in my opinion. If other people exploit that failure to achieve their goals, then ... what can I say ... they have outsmarted you. I...

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

My point about phones being compromised is that the challenge of reverse engineering their firmware shows that "untamperable" firmware is being tampered all the time by various people. The technology of the memory is irrelevant, as long as it is programmable.

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

I find it quite amusing how the Americans are quick to blame failure on "Malfunction" rather than other peoples ingenuity. It seems they find it easier to believe they screwed up than somebody outsmarted them! But if you look at the facts objectively, this can not be a coincidence. If the...

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

I cannot agree with your opinion that FPGAs can not be tampered with. Surely if they were made by humans they can be tampered with by a capable, resourceful organization. In addition, if this is COTS then information on their design can be considered common knowledge. Just look at any gadget...

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

Well, all I am saying is that if the information security is such that it would allow what you call "common Windows based 'script kiddie' crap" then I suspect it would be wide open to a detirmined, well funded, capable adversary.

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

I dont really know much about the Iranian military and their computer hacking abilities. There has not been much note of that in the media but I guess it is possible that they have developed the capability to hack into the control mechanism. I would suspect that ground to air comms to the drones...

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

Lets analyze the facts of the matter: 1. The Iranians claim to have downed a US Stealth UAV RQ-170 with minimal damage. 2. NATO has acknowledged that one of their drone is missing, last seen near the Iranian border. 3. US Military Sources say to the media that they believe Iran has the...

US Stealth UAV RQ-170 downed in IRAN

If this story is true and the Iranians have the ability to take over control of US drones then this is truly a remarkable feat by them. This marks the beginnings of a new field in aerial warfare! It leads one to wonder how long Iran has had this ability. Did they have this ability on Nov. 26th...
