From the textbooks that I remember, and remembering my aunt doing MA Islamiyat, I do think that the islamiyat texts are quite balanced, and informative. There have been issues with Shia communities in Gilgit, etc. who have complained about Islamiyat, but those issues have been addressed.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was responding to Bane Blade, and his reference. I only took islamiyat for a couple of years in Pakistan, so I am not sure about all its contents. But my point still remains, that such subjects are important.
