Actually, Urdu, (which is a fusion of Persian and Hindi) was refered to as Hindavi, Hindustani or Decanni during its nascent stages in medieval India. It gave rise to a lot of Sufi literature, and ultimately matured into being called Urdu, which I have to admit, is a very beautiful language.
