Turkey used the fsa to bring down bashar and install a government that was pro Turkish but that backfired. In 1998 Turkey and Syria actually nearly came close to war. The dudes never liked each other at all due to numerous factors.

I know very well the Cold War dynamic between Syria and Turkey caused the rift however it was still cordial at best
