Pakistan Women delivered a clinical performance to defeat West Indies by 65 runs in a low-scoring encounter at the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier at Gaddafi Stadium on Monday, marking their third consecutive victory in the tournament.

Batting first, Pakistan set a modest target of 192, anchored by a steady 54-run innings from Sidra Amin. Opening batter Muneeba Ali contributed 33 from 60 deliveries, while Sidra Nawaz and Aliya Riaz added 23 and 20 runs respectively.

West Indies’ bowlers kept the scoring in check, with Hayley Matthews, Karishma Ramharack, and Afy Fletcher each claiming a wicket. Ashmini Munisar and Aaliyah Alleyne also chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Despite a disciplined bowling effort, the West Indies batting line-up crumbled under pressure. They were bowled out for just 126 runs, with only Aaliyah Alleyne (22) and Shabika Gajnabi (21) reaching double figures.

Pakistan captain Nida Dar played a vital role with the ball, taking three wickets to lead the attack. She was supported by Rameen Shamim and Nashra Sandhu, who claimed two wickets each. Sadia Iqbal picked up one.

Sidra Amin was named Player of the Match for her composed half-century, which laid the foundation for Pakistan’s defendable total.

“This win boosts our momentum and brings us closer to qualifying for the main tournament,” said Amin following the match.

With earlier wins over Ireland and Scotland, Pakistan significantly improving their chances of securing a place in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Sana's all-round heroics take Pakistan to ODI World Cup

To qualify, Scotland and West Indies need to win their next matches by big margins and hope Bangladesh lose badly to Pakistan

Pakistan 205 for 6 (Amin 80, Sana 62*, Putthawong 2-37) beat Thailand 118 (Shamim 3-18, Sandhu 3-19, Sana 3-39) by 87 runs

Pakistan confirmed their participation at the Women's ODI World Cup after beating Thailand by 87 runs to secure their fourth win of the qualifier. Pakistan, with eight points, are at the top of the table and can only be matched by Bangladesh, who they play on Saturday and are in pole position to take the second World Cup spot.

Two other teams - Scotland and West Indies - are also in contention. In order to qualify, Scotland and West Indies need to win their matches against Ireland and Thailand respectively by big margins and hope Bangladesh lose badly enough to Pakistan to dip below them in net run rate terms.

Bangladesh can qualify for the World Cup even if they lose to Pakistan and both Scotland and West Indies win their final matches because of their net run rate advantage.

Pakistan will be thrilled to have avoided the intricacies of calculations like these after they booked their World Cup places with a game to spare. They are also unbeaten on home turf and have rediscovered their form. Before the qualifiers, Pakistan had last won an ODI in December 2023 and were on a five-game losing streak. In the last week, they put that right and reeled off four straight wins, albeit not always easily, and will now play in their fifth successive World Cup.

Their participation will require additional logistics for the tournament, scheduled for India from late September. In keeping with the hybrid model agreed by the BCCI and PCB ahead of this year's Champions Trophy, Pakistan are unlikely to travel to India for the tournament and will play their matches at a yet-to-be-decided neutral venue.

Pakistan will not worry about that for now as they celebrate their qualification run led by their captain Fatima Sana. She injected energy into a pedestrian innings that was meandering at 119 for 4 after 40 overs - a scoring rate of under three runs an over - with a quickfire unbeaten 62 off 59 balls. Sana and Sidra Amin, who posted her third fifty-plus score of the qualifiers with 80 off 105 balls, shared a run-ball 97-run stand and Pakistan scored 86 runs in the last ten overs to give themselves a defendable total.

Take nothing away from Thailand's bowlers, who were disciplined for the bulk of the innings and created several chances. Two of them were off Sana's bat and she was caught twice off the bowling of offspinner Onnicha Kamchomphu but the deliveries were judged no-balls and Sana continued batting. Without her contribution, Pakistan may have been concerned especially as Thailand's batting has improved as the campaign has gone on.

They scored 259 chasing 306 against Ireland two days ago which was their highest ODI score and would have believed that even though they had never successfully chased a target above 200, they could give it a good go.

Thailand were hard done by when opener Chanida Sutthiruang was given out stumped off Sadia Iqbal when replays seemed to suggest her foot was grounded behind the line when Sidra Nawaz broke the stumps. But they could not complain when Sana, who came on to bowl in the tenth over, sent down a delivery on a perfect offstump line and Nattaya Boochatham edged behind. Two balls later, Nannapat Koncharoenkai was bowled by offspinner Rameem Shamim and at 44 for 3, Thailand's chances looked grim.

They worked their way to 100 before Sana struck again. She bowled Thipatcha Putthawong and Suwanan Khiaoto to pick up 3 for 39 and is now the joint second highest wicket-taker of the qualifiers, three wickets behind Hayley Matthews.

Thailand were bowled out for 118 in the 35th over. They remain winless from their four matches so far and sign off against West Indies on Saturday in a match West Indies will be looking to win by as large a margin as possible.

Pakistan finished the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Qualifiers at the top of the table with a domineering win over Bangladesh by seven wickets in Lahore on Saturday to remain unbeaten in the tournament.

Pakistan had already booked their spot for the World Cup to be held later this year in India on Thursday, courtesy of their bowlers, who had once again stepped up to defend a below-par score of 205 against Thailand.

Playing in their final One-Day International (ODI) encounter of the tournament, the Green Team restricted Bangladesh to a paltry 178-9 in the first innings at the Lahore City Cricket Association ground.

In the second innings, the hosts reached the target with ease, getting over the line with more than 10 overs to spare, with player of the match Muneeba Ali scoring 69 to set up the chase.

Pakistan’s bowlers put in yet another memorable performance as Bangladesh could only manage 178-9 on a track that wasn’t as difficult to bat on.

Bangladesh got off to a rocky start when they lost their openers for low scores courtesy of Pakistan captain Fatima Sana and spinner Sadia Iqbal, both continuing with their terrific form with the ball throughout the tournament.

Fargana Hoque fell for a seven-ball duck as Fatima got her with a ball that came in after pitching.

Bangladesh were 21-3 at one stage after they lost captain Nigar Sultana to another inducker by Fatima.

Bangladesh veteran bats Ritu Moni and Fahima Khatun were the mainstays for their side, both scoring 40+ scores to rescue their team from a precarious situation at one stage in the innings.

Sadia Iqbal was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts, getting three wickets for 28 off her 10 overs with her wily left-arm spin.

After Pakistan lost opener Shawaal Zulfiqar on just the second ball of the innings, Muneeba starred with the bat again for Pakistan, with an innings of 69 runs.

The southpaw opener hit eight sublime boundaries during her stay at the crease and ensured Bangladesh never made inroads into the middle order.

The veteran Sidra Amin chipped in with another substantial innings of 37, following up on her 80 in the last match.

Player of the match in the encounter against Scotland, the big-hitting Aliya Riaz was the batter who took the Green Team home.

She remained unbeaten on 52, hitting the winning runs for the hosts as they ended the tournament with a perfect scoreline of five wins and zero losses.

This was despite the Green Team not having the best of days in the field as they dropped multiple catches, allowing Bangladesh to get to a fighting total after they won the toss and elected to bat.

Skipper Fatima had led the way for Pakistan women as they beat Thailand by 87 runs in their fourth encounter of the qualifiers on Thursday.

She was the player of the match after playing a captain’s knock of 62 not out, supported by veteran bat Sidra Amin from the other end. She then picked up three wickets as well in the second innings to help bowl out Thailand for 118 runs.

The Pakistan skipper, speaking after the match had said, “Our main aim was that we want to play the World Cup — and the way our players were supporting each other, with our self-belief getting stronger after the camp, that really helped us achieve this win.”

The six-team ICC event — which includes Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand and West Indies alongside hosts Pakistan — featured a single-league round-robin format with the matches taking placeat the Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA ground in Lahore.

The tournament decided the two qualifiers for the 2025 Women’s World Cup to be held later this year in India.

Pakistan, however, will be playing their matches at a neutral venue after a “fusion” model was decided upon following India’s refusal to play their matches in Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.
