This story provides a good example regarding carrier vs submarine debate in general:

U.S. aircraft carrier and part of its escort “sunk” by French submarine during drills off Florida

By David Cenciotti

If you thought aircraft carriers were invincible you were wrong.

On Mar. 4, the French Ministry of Defense released some interesting details, about the activity conducted by one of its nuclear-powered attack submarine (SNA) in the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.

According to French MoD website (that is no longer online, even if you can still find a cached version of the article titled “Le SNA Saphir en entraînement avec l’US Navy au large de la Floride”), the Saphir submarine has recently taken part in a major exercise with the U.S. Navy off Florida.

The aim of the exercise was joint training with U.S. Carrier Strike Group 12 made by the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, several Ticonderoga or Arleigh Burke-class frigates and a type of submarine Los Angeles, ahead of their operational deployment.

The scenario of the drills saw some imaginary states assaulting American economic and territorial interests; threats faced by a naval force led by USS Theodore Roosevelt.

During the first phase of the exercise, the Saphir was integrated into the friendly force to support anti-submarine warfare (ASW) by cooperating with U.S. P-3C Orion P-8A Poseidon MPA (Maritime Patrol Aircraft): its role was to share all the underwater contacts with the other ASW assets.

In the second phase of the exercise, the Saphir was integrated with the enemy forces and its mission was to locate the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt and its accompanying warships and prepare to attack the strike group.

While the fictious political situation deteriorated, the Saphir quietly slipped in the heart of the multi-billion-dollar aircraft carrier’s defensive screen, while avoiding detection by ASW assets.

On the morning of the last day, the order to attack was finally given, allowing the Saphir to pretend-sinking the USS Theodore Roosevelt and most of its escort.

Although we don’t really know many more details about the attack and its outcome, the scripted exercise its RoE (Rules of Engagement), the simulated sinking of a U.S. supercarrier proves the flattop’s underwater defenses are not impenetrable.

This is the reason why modern subs often train with aircraft carriers: they pose a significant threat to powerful Carrier Strike Groups.

Obviously, this was not the first time a submarine scored a simulated carrier kill with torpedo attacks.

For instance, in 2007 HMCS Corner Brook, a Canadian diesel-electric submarine “sunk” UK’s Illustrious during an exercise in the Atlantic.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami said the precision targeting of Persian Gulf ballistic missiles has been improved to have a zero margin of error, when it was used for striking a mock US aircraft carrier in the recent drills. According to Iranian Admirals and Generals, this is a very unique capability of a BM, i.e; Hitting a moving target with a BM.

don't think we are too worried. and congrats on hitting a mock carrier while it's not moving.

Carrier battle group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

for a think tank you are pretty dumb on this subject.
if you can't see this is all 100% propaganda and not actually useful for a future attack on a aircraft carrier then there is no point in arguing with you anymore.

computer simulation makes more sense than shooting at a dead junk of metal.

Then for example, why did US use mock-up Soviet/Russian tanks in their excercises?

The BM is not launched first, it will be after much defense saturation, like in the late exercises.
By the way, it is about a new missile breakthrough technology achievement than anything else. Please stop the paranoia.

Congrats to all Iranian brothers for these achievements.
Very nice indeed.
But just to make it clear, doesn't that shot seem a miss?

What about this one, as much as I can see half of the missiles are missing the target.

The target was hit , look at the first picture before the hit the target was behind what you see in the front.

First of all a carrier group can't literally do shyte against brah mos missile let alone a 5-6 mach ballistic missile coming from above and performing terminal maneuvering.

Also the cruise speed of a carrier is in no world significant

Don't be a kid please.

because they are cheap? a complete opposite of the mock aircraft carrier
that just took up a lot of their time and resources.

is it just editing ? but it seems like a tv guided missile at 0:15

actually they can , Brahmos at first doesn't even have the range for the launch platform to come unnoticed got carrier battlegroup with constant AWACs in the air and etc. not to mention you would have to completely overwhelm the battlegroup with number of missiles to at least get a few through to cause real damage. as for terminal maneuvering,
is there a source to confirm that part?

also SM-2 and SM-3 are exactly intended for targets "coming from above" , terminal maneuvering can cause a miss by SM-2 or SM-3 but due to 2 being fired per each target the margin of error is significantly reduced.
